Garlic Chives

$2.99
This easy-growing variety is great anywhere you want a pop of sweet garlic-onion flavor.

Garlic chives, also known as Chinese leeks, have flatter leaves and large, white, star-shaped flowers. They have a rich garlic flavor and are commonly used in Asian dishes. Garlic chives are best used as a vegetable rather than an herb, and can be eaten raw or cooked. The plant is larger, more robust, and slower to grow than other varieties, but are also long-lived and have been known to thrive for a decade in the same spot. The edible flowers make a great garnish for soups and salads.

Harvesting tips

These hardy plants will grow anywhere on your device but should have access to sun for optimal growth. Unlike other chives, they will form small bunches from a central stalk more like a leek or green onion. Parts of plant can be harvested by separating the desired amount of stalks and cutting from the base of plant when leaves are about 6" tall. Clean up plants by carefully removing outer leaves that will be brown and limp and should easily pull away when tugged in an upward motion.
